One of my favorite roles as a pastor is when I am asked to perform a wedding ceremony. It is such an honor to be included in a couple's big day, and invest in their marriage. During counseling sessions, I often get asked about musical selection, order of ceremonies, as well as a number of other topics specific to the wedding day. After doing this for a few years now, the one area I would suggest to all couples (budget large or small) to invest some money in, is in the photography/videography.
It was a mistake Erin and I made in our planning for our own wedding, to scrimp on the photographer's budget. Believe me, a great photographer can take simple decorations, and plain dresses or tuxedos and make them look fantastic. However, a poor photographer... often a friend of a friend... can make the best looking venues, decorations and dresses look mediocre at best. My advice: Spend the money.
Take a look at these two options in this post on vimeo. I don't know these people at all, but I think it would have been awesome to have been at the ceremony for either couple. Don't you want people to feel that way about your memories as well?
